The Edge series represents the upper class at Motorola, but the latest model is priced far below the luxury smartphones, which cost around a thousand euros. Despite the price, the Motorola Edge 40 Neo for just under 400 euros has some features that have long been reserved for expensive smartphones.

The Edge 40 Neo has a 6.55-inch OLED display that displays stretched Full HD and supports a high refresh rate of adaptive 144 Hertz. The manufacturer specifies the maximum brightness as up to 1300 cd/m². In addition to the 256 GB of internal memory, there is a whopping 12 GB of RAM, which should still be sufficient for complex applications in a few years.
A novelty for a Motorola smartphone outside the high price range: The Edge 40 neo is protected against the ingress of dust and water according to IP68. Motorola actively encourages customers to go swimming and take photos underwater with their smartphones. The processor chosen was a Dimensity 7030 from Mediatek, an upper mid-range octa-core SoC.
When it comes to the sheer number of cameras, Motorola has turned the corner; the smartphone lacks a telephoto. There is a main camera with a 50-megapixel sensor and a bright f/1.5 aperture as well as an ultra-wide-angle with 13 megapixels. For video recordings, horizon stabilization can be set for landscape and portrait format, which should ensure a steady image in shaky situations. The maximum resolution is limited to Full HD; without a stabilizer, the Edge 40 Neo can record 4K. The front camera shoots selfies with a resolution of up to 32 megapixels through a hole in the top center of the screen.

The Android smartphone has a 5000 mAh battery in its belly. The maximum charging power is 68 watts, the smartphone does not support wireless charging. The Edge 40 Neo hides the technology in a flat case with a metal frame that is rounded on the sides and a back covered with “vegan leather”. Motorola guarantees Android upgrades up to version 16 and four years of regular security patches.
At 399 euros, the Motorola Edge 40 neo is in the middle class. The smartphone is available in three colors: Soothing Sea, a light pastel green, Caneel Bay (turquoise) and Black Beauty (black). The scope of delivery includes the matching 68-watt power supply and cable as well as a protective cover in the same color. It comes from the Swedish manufacturer “A Good Company” and is made from linseed. If you want to spend less, you will find alternatives with the two new models Moto G84 for 299 euros and Moto G54 for 199 euros.
