Coinciding with the start of the school year, school transportation has generated debate in recent days. The Department of Education has rejected the precautionary measures requested by the bus companies and has reminded them of the obligation to provide the service.
Today, school day, around 7,000 students from the CAV still do not know whether or not they will have a transport service this morning to go to school. For the moment, the transport companies that EITB Media has been able to speak with have suggested that there will be no service today either.
Given this situation, the Minister of Education, Jokin Bildarratz, announced these days that there will be aid for affected families. In an interview with Radio Bilbao on Sunday, he once again asked carriers to rethink their position and offer service today.
In fact, the Department of Education of the Basque Government rejected last week the precautionary measures requested by the bus companies and reminded them of the obligation to provide service. For now, it remains to be seen if this will be the case today.
Bizkaia and, especially, Álava, have been left without school transport at the beginning of the course due to the strike carried out by some thirty companies.
Last year, the night before going back to school, an agreement was reached between the school transport companies and the Department of Education. This week the Department of Education’s order to subsidize families is expected to be published.
The case of the Etxaurren de Aiaraldea school
The parents of the Etxaurren school in the Aiaraldea region will not take their children to class today, as a sign of protest, considering that it is a conflict that should have been resolved “before the start of the school year”.
If the problem continues on Tuesday, the AMPA has made the decision to cut the road, although they will go to school. They assure that they are not looking for culprits, but that it is already “enough”.
