“Very happy. It’s fantastic to win this award with this film because I’ve been trying to make it for a long time. And it’s the best result we could hope for,” said the director.
Lanthimos regretted that Stone could not also take the Lion, since, according to the director, his performance was one of the main reasons for the film’s success. The actress could not attend the festival due to the actors’ strike in Hollywood.
The Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize went to the Japanese Ryusuke Hamaguchi, with “Evil Does Not Exist”, and the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best New Actor: Seydou Sarr for “Io Capitano” by Matteo Garrone.
