Regional and municipal elections were held this weekend in 80 Russian regions, as well as in the four Ukrainian regions that Vladimir Putin’s government illegally annexed last year: Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson. Also the Crimean peninsula, which has remained occupied by the Russians since 2014.
The last Russian election day was condemned by the Government of Ukraine and the West, which in turn branded it as “illegitimate” and a direct violation of international law.
It is the first time that Russia has held elections in these four Ukrainian regions since in 2022 it held a referendum, also illegal, for the annexation of these territories from kyiv.
The Kremlin party, United Russia, says it has “swept away” in the local elections

The CEC assured today that the turnout in Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporiyia and Jershon is much higher than in other Russian territories, above 74 %.
