Regional and municipal elections were held this weekend in 80 Russian regions, as well as in the four Ukrainian regions that Vladimir Putin’s government illegally annexed last year: Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson.

The Russian authorities denounced multiple sabotage attempts during the voting of the pseudo-elections called in the occupied areas of Ukraine.

According to Moscow, in the early hours of Sunday, a drone destroyed a polling station in the Zaporizhia region.

Regional and municipal elections were held this weekend in 80 Russian regions, as well as in the four Ukrainian regions that Vladimir Putin’s government illegally annexed last year: Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson. Also the Crimean peninsula, which has remained occupied by the Russians since 2014.

The last Russian election day was condemned by the Government of Ukraine and the West, which in turn branded it as “illegitimate” and a direct violation of international law.

It is the first time that Russia has held elections in these four Ukrainian regions since in 2022 it held a referendum, also illegal, for the annexation of these territories from kyiv.

The Kremlin party, United Russia, says it has “swept away” in the local elections

According to the electoral commission imposed by Russia in the southeastern region of Zaporizhia, the pro-government force would have achieved 83.96% of the votes for the legislative assembly after almost 60% of the votes counted.

In Kherson he would have gathered 75% with 87% of the ballots counted, while in Donetsk he would lead with 79.56% with almost 40% of the votes counted.

In Lugansk, the only Ukrainian region that Russia controls practically entirely, the Kremlin party would have obtained 74.72% of the support with almost 54% of the reviewed ballots.

The CEC assured today that the turnout in Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporiyia and Jershon is much higher than in other Russian territories, above 74 %.
