They organized the action to protest against Dutch fossil fuel subsidies, holding up signs such as “Highway to climate hell!” And they promised to “come back tomorrow, the day after tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.”
“A lot of money is being invested in the wrong place. Those who currently use the most fossil fuels are the ones who receive the most subsidies. This is slowing down the transition (to renewable energy),” Katrien Joosten, a 46-year-old architect, told AFP. while marching with his 13-year-old son.
Extinction Rebellion puts the total number of protesters at 25,000, while local authorities speak of between 10,000 and 12,000.
