Catalonia faces this Monday a new Diada of September 11 marked by resentment within the independence movement and conditioned by the negotiation context for the investiture of the next president of the Spanish Government.
If last year the Diada showed the discomfort of a sector of the independence movement with the ERC’s commitment to dialogue with the State, on this occasion the misgivings are also directed towards JxCat, which is not closed to negotiating the investiture of Pedro Sánchez .
The three pro-independence parties with parliamentary representation -ERC, JxCat and the CUP- arrive divided, after Junts decided to leave the Government of Pere Aragonès last October, in disagreement with his pact strategy in Madrid.
Despite the fact that relations between the three formations continue to be marked by tension, ERC and JxCat now maintain very similar positions regarding the investiture, open to negotiations if their most relevant demands, such as amnesty, are met.
However, the divisive factor is provided by the Catalan National Assembly (ANC), the organizing entity of the demonstration every September 11 since the beginning of the ‘procés’ and which in recent years has been losing steam due to the demobilization of independence.
Two demonstrations in the afternoon
As usual, the official acts of the Diada will start at 09:00 this Monday in Barcelona with the floral offerings of institutions, parties, unions and entities to the monument to Rafael Casanova, starting with the members of the Government, with the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, at the head.
Following the same pattern as always, the ANC has called for a demonstration in the center of Barcelona for 5:14 p.m., which this time will start from four different places -Sants Station, headquarters of the Treasury, City of Justice and Proa School – to converge on Plaza Espanya, where there will be parliaments.
On the other hand, at 6:00 p.m. the usual demonstration of the CUP and other forces of the pro-independence left will start from Plaza Urquinaona, which will culminate in the Born neighborhood.
