Zoom has introduced AI Companion, a new tool for its video meeting service. The aim should be to increase productivity and improve team collaboration. If you are late for a video meeting, the AI Companion helps with an overview of the content already discussed. You can also ask questions about the course of the conversation. In the event of a missed meeting, it is possible to generate a summary showing exactly who said what. The assistant can divide recorded video meetings into intelligent chapters.

Companies decide on the use of AI themselves
Support in answering messages will also be available soon. The tool should make suggestions for e-mails and chat messages in the right tonality and the right length. Chat messages can also be summarized for a better overview. The American company states that the AI Companion will in future also be able to recognize meeting intentions in chat messages and then directly display a button for scheduling appointments. An AI-generated analysis of recorded phone calls and the summary of SMS messages is also offered. What is interesting is the possibility of having your own presentation skills tested; the tool provides real-time feedback on how often and how quickly you speak.
With so many options, the question of data protection naturally arises. In a blog post, the provider explains that “no audio, video, chat, screen sharing, attachments or other communications such as customer content (such as survey results, whiteboard and reactions) will be used to create artificial intelligence models from Zoom or “To train third parties”. Zoom also points out that companies can decide whether or not to activate the AI features in principle. But there is also the option of deactivating the tool at every meeting if you wish. We asked Zoom in which country the collected data is stored and how the GDPR is handled. As soon as there is an answer, this message will be added.
