The News Council of À Punt, the Valencian regional television, has issued a statement in which she denounces and condemns “the verbal aggression and threats” that Esther Barrera, sister of Vice President Vicente Barrera and an administrator at the public company, made last Tuesday to the editorial team of “les Noticies del migdia” that was preparing the news 2 p.m. The statement does not mention the name of the person who threatened, but sources from the network have confirmed that it is the relative of the Minister of Culture. The sister entered the editorial office and spoke in a bad manner and audibly, according to the same sources, to the informants to protest about the news that was going to be broadcast regarding the fact that the vice president of the Consell, from Vox, continues to lead seven family businesses despite holding public office since last July, as published by El Confidencial. Barrera’s appointment was announced on June 13.
In its statement, the Consell d’Informatius, an internal body in which professionals participate to ensure the independence, objectivity and veracity of the information, states: “In light of the regrettable incident recorded in the editorial office of À Punt last Tuesday , September 5, this Consell d’Informatius expresses its total and unconditional support to the members of the editing team who suffered verbal aggression and threats from a member of the staff of this company.” In addition, he congratulates the editing team for their “resistance to pressure and for not allowing it to affect the content of the news program being prepared at that time.”

The council expects “a forceful action by the company for the conduct contemplated in labor regulations in the face of an intolerable attitude.” “There is no evidence, at this time, of any external action that could be related to the incident,” the note adds.
The Unió de Periodistes, the main professional association of the Valencian Community, also spoke out on the controversy: “The Unió de Periodistes offers all its support to the staff of À Punt Notícies who have experienced a regrettable episode of attempted interference with threats when reported on the incompatibilities of Vice President Vicente Barrera. We hope it is solved and not repeated.”
Regarding the information about the former bullfighter Vicente Barrera, both the PP and Vox, partners of the Government of the Generalitat, assure that there is a period of two months to complete the corresponding procedure for his appointment. The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, of the PP, stated this Wednesday that Barrera is “in perfect time to do things well.” “I don’t know of any incompatibility,” he stated.

However, the parliamentary spokesperson for the PSPV-PSOE, Rebeca Torró, accused the Consell of “making excuses” to “break the law” and that she only has two options: “either leave her positions in the private company or resign.” “There is no two-month period for Barrera to regularize his situation.” she added.
