Macarena’s Big Brother ‘ignites’ Sevillismo in a Betis floral offering with controversy

This Wednesday, once again this year, Real Betis made its traditional floral offering to one of the brotherhoods of the capital of Seville. The temple chosen at the start of this new season was the Basilica of María Santísima de la Esperanza Macarena, an event in which the staff, the coaching staff and the board of directors, headed by its president Ángel Haro, were present.

The Betis have been received by the Big Brother of the Macarena Brotherhood, José Antonio Fernández Cabrero, who in his speech made his colors clear: «Betis is the first corporation in the city, then there is another and then there is the Brotherhood of the Macarena”. The corporation has been forced to qualify some words in which, without even citing it, it placed the city’s rival club, Sevilla FC, in second place, a gesture that has made the Nervión institution feel ignored.

«The brotherhood of La Macarena and Real Betis Balompié add up to 554 years of history. But they share very important things. Who doesn’t know about the universality of Betis? And who doesn’t know that the Macarena has 17,000 brothers and is present in 117 countries in the world?” asked the Elder Brother of the Resolana temple, oblivious to the controversy that would later trigger.

Given the media commotion generated, the Brotherhood of the Macarena has been forced to specify the address of Fernández Cabrero. Through its social networks, the corporation has stated that “it does not identify with any team and that it respects the two clubs” in the capital.

“Clarification: following the words of the Big Brother during the wreath laying at Real Betis, the Brotherhood would like no misunderstandings or interpretations that are not in the spirit of the Corporation or its Governing Board,” they point out, but without giving his arm to twist: «The Big Brother has referred to the ‘first institution of the city’ by the number of members, data obtained from official and verified sources, and as a rhetorical element to make an analogy with the number of brothers of the Macarena and their social representativeness,” they add.

What seemed to be a quiet week without domestic football, has ended with the return of Sergio Ramos to the red and white club and with a wreath that was not exempt from controversy.
