Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD) wants to help anchor the use of artificial intelligence more firmly in the population. He wants to promote working with AI in administration and also in small and medium-sized companies. With a view to possible risks, the Ministry of Labor and the Interior Department should develop rules to reduce the resulting risks for employees. According to dpa, the minister said this on Monday evening in Berlin.

AI will be everywhere
Heil assumes that by 2035 at the latest there will no longer be a job that has nothing to do with AI applications. At the cabinet meeting at Meseberg Castle at the end of August, the federal government agreed on a data strategy that will create the technical and legal requirements for the use of AI applications in administration over the next two years. “We will try to bring AI onto the streets in Germany,” said Heil.
In addition to the opportunities offered by the use of technology, the Minister of Labor is also concerned with the uncertainties among the population when it comes to the use of AI: “What does that actually do to my work in journalism, in the office, in administration?” From his point of view, work will not stop because of AI, but will change. If used well, it could ensure “that the world of work becomes more humane, that it becomes more humane, that we prevent accidents at work, for example, that work is healthy.”
Rules for employee protection
Heil, for example, cited the disadvantages of the technology as employers’ ability to use AI to “condense work, put people under pressure and completely monitor them.” Accordingly, the Ministry of Labor and the Interior Department want to develop key points for employee data protection, among other things.

AI is already being used in our own ministry, explained Heil. In a separate department called the “Digital Working Society Think Tank”, experts would monitor key future developments in the labor market. The AI called “Horizon Scanning” scans around 200 million text sources to recognize labor market trends.
Heil wants to build trust so that AI can be used. Both in small and medium-sized companies as well as in administration. This can be made more efficient with AI. AI could, for example, help the Federal Employment Agency better match job seekers and suitable vacancies with the help of AI.
