Madrid, chaired by Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has emerged as the leader in average spending by international tourists from all over Spain. Foreign visitors left an average of 1,865 euros in the capital region last July, compared to the 1,367 euros they left on average in the rest of Spain. That is, tourists spent almost 500 euros more in Madrid on average, above such touristy communities as the Canary Islands, where the average expenditure was 1,742 euros, or Andalusia, where it was 1,390 euros.
Madrid has even surpassed the average expenditure in the Balearic Islands, which amounted to 1,346, despite the fact that this is the main tourist destination chosen by non-residents in Spain for tourism. In total, throughout Spain, tourist spending amounted to 13,853 million euros, which represented a growth of 16.4% compared to the same month last year and 16% compared to 2019.
Similarly, the Community of Madrid continues to once again lead the way in receiving the highest average expenditure per day with 280 euros compared to the 185 euros of the average for Spain and with a large difference from the second and third regions, Catalonia with 213 euros and Balearic Islands with 206 euros.
Specifically, in July Madrid received 664,691 international tourists, mainly from the United States and France, which was 6.2% more than the same month last year. This is the best data for a month of July in the entire historical series.
«The data once again reflects that the Community of Madrid continues to be on the podium of attracting tourists in the summer, due to all the cultural, sports, gastronomic and leisure activities that it is carrying out to diversify seasonality and that the region “It is a tourist destination open at any time of the year,” said the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Community of Madrid, Mariano de Paco.
