Withings is showing the latest generation of its hybrid watch “Scanwatch” in two new versions at the IFA: ScanWatch 2 and ScanWatch Light. Both watches with the classic game of hands show measured values and information on a grayscale OLED display with a diameter of 0.63 inches (14,504 pixels each, 282 ppi pixel density and 16-bit grayscale) and are optionally available with colored bracelets (Hand 4.2, status: 301).
According to the manufacturer, the ScanWatch 2 offers a battery life of 30 days as the top model. The charging time is given as 2 hours. Nevertheless, thanks to the revised “HealthSense” operating system, it should be more powerful than its predecessor and record a larger number of medical data – including the basic body temperature. On the one hand, according to Withings, changes in the value indicate illnesses, on the other hand, recovery phases after training can be better defined.
Thanks to its ECG function, the watch is designed to detect atrial fibrillation. It now also measures heart rate variability during the night and determines the oxygen content in the blood on demand. Finally, the ScanWatch 2 can monitor sleep and the female cycle. In combination with a new acceleration sensor, the new generation finally has algorithms with the help of which it should be able to automatically recognize more than 40 sports.
The ScanWatch stores health data for up to 7 days on the watch, and they also migrate (unlimited) to the company’s own cloud. The connection to the Android or iOS mobile phone with the Withings app installed is via Bluetooth Low Energy.
The ScanWatch Light is the most affordable model in the range. Like the ScanWatch 2, it offers a comprehensive overview of heart health, activity and cycle monitoring, and sleep monitoring. With the same HealthSense technology, it’s also optimized for 24/7 monitoring for up to 30 days, according to Withings.

Both watches have a stainless steel case with a stainless steel crown and can withstand a pressure of 5 bar or the pressure of a water column of 50 meters. The ScanWatch 2 comes with sapphire glass, the ScanWatch Light with gorilla glass.
Both watches can now be pre-ordered via the manufacturer’s online shop. The ScanWatch 2 is available for 350 euros in sizes 38 mm in black, white and sand and 42 mm in black. The ScanWatch Light (37 mm) will be available in black, white and sand at a price of 250 euros. Both models will also be available from selected dealers from October 2023. (nij)
