Throughout the day the funerals of other Wagner group commanders, who died in the same air accident, have also officiated.
The head of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, who died on August 23 in a plane crash, has been buried in the Porojóvskoye cemetery in Saint Petersburg, according to his press service.
The statement published on the Telegram network says verbatim: “The last goodbye to Yevgueni Víktorovich has taken place behind closed doors. Those who want to say goodbye to him can visit the Porojóvskoye cemetery.”
Prigozhin’s funerals have been held in the midst of great secrecy and without the journalists knowing the exact time or place of the burial. Throughout the day, security measures have been deployed in several Saint Petersburg cemeteries, which has given rise to various assumptions about where the head of the Wagner group could be buried.
The Kremlin had already confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin would not attend the funeral of Wagner’s boss.
This Tuesday they have also said their last goodbye to other members of the command of the mercenary group. Family and friends have also fired Valery Chekalov, Yevgeny Prigozhin’s partner and head of security.
They begin to carry out the funerals for the controls of the Wagner group
The plane crash in which the leadership of the Wagner mercenary group died occurred on August 23. The plane in which they were traveling crashed, for reasons still unknown, some 300 kilometers northwest of Moscow.
Some members of the Wagner group and the opposition have accused Putin of being behind this incident. However, the Kremlin has rejected these accusations and has promised to investigate what happened.
The Russian Investigation Committee (CIR) has confirmed the identity of the occupants of the plane through DNA analysis and has ensured that among them were the high command of the Wagner group.
At the moment, no information has been published regarding the causes of the accident, among which an explosion on board, a technical failure or even a piloting error are being considered.
