New Macs: Second Apple event in October?

It is generally accepted that Apple will present new iPhones with a keynote in September. But will there also be an October event this year? At least new products are planned for this month. This is the assumption of the financial news agency Bloomberg. A report over the weekend said Apple is likely planning to launch new Macs by then.

More performance, less power consumption

However, that does not necessarily mean that there will be another event for this. In October 2022, Apple presented new iPads and a revised Apple TV 4K, but did not invite to its own event. The same could now also happen at the aforementioned Mac event. However, it will not really be unimportant: the iPhone group is apparently planning to introduce the first computers with the M3 SoCs built in the 3 nm process.

These ARM chips with more CPU and GPU cores are already being tested extensively and are supposed to deliver more performance with lower power consumption thanks to the smaller structural width. There will be four models again: M3, M3 Pro, M3 Max and M3 Ultra. However, only the M3 should be presented this year. This was actually hoped for with the new MacBook Air 15 in the summer, which only came with the M2.

Two or three M3 Macs

It is still unclear which Mac models with the M3 Apple will ultimately present. The long-awaited next generation iMac would be conceivable. The MacBook Air 13 and MacBook Pro 13 with Touch Bar are also considered candidates. As already mentioned, Apple updated the MacBook Air 15 in June. M3 Pro, M3 Max and (later) M3 Ultra models are not expected until next spring.

Another possibility for an October release concerns the iPad tablets. At least minor improvements to individual models could be planned here, for example with the iPad mini. The first iPad Pro with M3, on the other hand, is not expected until spring 2024 at the earliest. All in all, the Apple year remains rather lukewarm when it comes to Macs. The delays in launching the M3 are fully reflected in Apple’s product offering.
