The traditional burning of Marijaia will close this Sunday the 43rd edition of Aste Nagusia in Bilbao. After nine days of celebration, the queen of the party will burn down in flames to rise again next year and once again turn the Villa into the “world capital of partying and fun”, as reported by the City Council. .

Thus, at 9:30 p.m., at the Uribitarte Dock, at the height of the Pio Baroja Pantalán, the aurresku to Txupinera and Pregonera will take place. A total of 20 rowers from the Deusto Rowing Club, dressed in white suits and wearing the Bilbao party scarf, will pick up the Aste Nagusia 2023 town crier and txupinera, Aiora Renteria and Izaskun Pinedo, who will embark on this final journey by the estuary
Marijaia will go up at 10:00 p.m. aboard the “Tomatera” to be towed by the drifters in a last farewell journey, from the Merced Bridge to the Town Hall Bridge. In this last location, around 10:12 p.m., before giving way to the burning (10:15 p.m.), the town crier, Aiora Renteria, will dedicate her last words to Marijaia and the txupinera, Izaskun Pinedo, will launch the final txupin of Aste Nagusia 2023.
As in previous editions, the City Council will set up sound towers on both sides of the route to listen to the song “Agur Marijaia” and the txosnas will turn off their lights.
