At least nine people died on Saturday after a parked train carriage caught fire in southern India as a passenger tried to make tea, authorities said.
The carriage, which had become detached from a train, was parked at the Madurai rail yard in the southern state of Tamil Nadu when the fire broke out before dawn.
Local media reported that the passengers had smuggled a gas canister on board which exploded when they tried to use it.
