Grand premiere with north wind in Pollença. The bay has been filled with candles for the premiere of the Trofeo Cormorán – Vinyes Can Axartell. A total of 55 cruise boats, classics and monotypes of the Flying Fifteen category have taken part in the first day of this competition organized by Royal Club Nàutic Port de Pollença and which has registered a great success of participation.
The regattas began at 3:00 p.m. with a somewhat unstable 25º northerly wind, which has allowed the Flying Fifteen to do two sleeves and one for the rest of the fleet. The first to take the start have been the classic boats, which have completed a coastal route starting in Pollença in the direction of Formentor, and then heading towards Aucanada. Both the Flying Fifteen and the RI cruisers have completed windward/leeward courses. Both classes had planned to carry out two tests, but in the case of the RI it has been impossible due to the continuous roles of wind that have been recorded on the regatta field.
Most of the leaders in this start of competition have a local accent. This is the case of Captain Api, Ignasi Cabanelles’ Oceanis 350 with the RCNPP flag, which has been the winner of the RI Classic class. Another ship from Pollença, Amador Magraner’s Celeste di Mare, won the Spirit of Tradition category. Also a local crew provisionally leads the classic boats division as well, as Patrick Harris’s Mogwli has been the winner in her class.
The only winner of the day from abroad has come from Menorca to participate in this Cormorán Trophy – Vinyes Can Axartell. This is Toni Pons’ Chica Txeca, who was the best in today’s test in the RI class. The Club Nàutic de Ciutadella boat is one of the most competitive in the Balearic Islands and often crosses the channel to take part in the main regattas in the North of Mallorca.
The competition will resume today Saturday, a day in which a coastal journey has been scheduled, starting at the Reial Club Nàutic Port de Pollença and whose equator will be located on the islet of the Aucanada lighthouse, in the Bay of Alcúdia, which will begin from 12:00 noon. The awards and closing ceremony is scheduled at 7:00 p.m.
