Project management: OpenProject 13.0 shows team progress more clearly

The project management tool OpenProject has received a new major release with version 13.0. In addition to new functions for more transparency in project progress, the developers have also further deepened the Nextcloud integration of the open source tool.

Baseline for progress comparison

Baseline is the name of the central new feature of the now released OpenProject 13.0: If desired, the function shows changes to individual work packages compared to an earlier point in time. Users of the free community version have limited access and can compare the current project status with that of the previous day. Customers of the paid Enterprise version, on the other hand, can freely choose the comparison points.

The OpenProject development team has also been working on the collaboration with the open-source collaboration tool Nextcloud, which has been intensified for some time. New project folders are intended to make it easier to assign access rights to files and folders: Each sub-project has its own folder that project participants can access automatically. In addition, templates for project structures can be created. These project templates can then contain recurring folder structures with file templates and be linked directly to working projects.

Also new is the OpenProject calendar integration via URL and a button for time recording with recording of working times on individual work packages. All further changes in OpenProject 13.0 list the release notes of the project.

Parts of the new OpenProject update were co-financed by the Federal Ministry of the Interior as part of the openDesk 1.0 project. The federal government’s project, better known as “Sovereign Workplace”, aims to promote the use of open-source tools in administration and thus increase digital sovereignty.

OpenProject is an open source project licensed under the GPLv3 and is an alternative, for example, to Atlassian’s Jira. There is an enterprise version of the tool with expanded functionality and pricing based on the depth of support.
