The coastal tuna fleet is nearing its end after having already consumed 78% of the quota assigned for this 2023. For its part, the Basque artisanal fleet has made a positive balance of the volume of catches, although it indicates as a “negative note” the prices at which fish is paid.
And it is that, as reported by the Itsas Etxea Kofradia center in Donostia, the price is being 25% lower than in 2022, the lowest registered in Gipuzkoa in the last seven years.
Despite this, Itsas Etxea has indicated that the fishery could end in two or three weeks after a large part of the assigned quota has already been consumed.
For the moment, the live bait fleet is working in close distances and, therefore, they can make short trips and return to unload the product to the markets of Euskadi.
For the trolling fleet, on the other hand, the bonito is a little further away this year, which means that the tides have to be longer.
