Pensioners are one of the groups hardest hit financially. Many are struggling to reach the minimum pension and with rising prices in supermarkets and electricity and gas bills, the monthly pay that retirees receive may have trouble making ends meet. But, if you are a pensioner and specifically you are receiving a non-contributory pension, it is important that you know the supplement of more than €3,300. A plus that you can charge, although for this you must meet a series of conditions that we detail below.
Supplement of more than €3,300 for pensioners
The non-contributory pensions administered by the Institute for the Elderly and Social Services (IMSERSO) are known to be modest, with small amounts within the country’s pension system. However, many wonder what are the criteria to access a supplement that exceeds 3,300 euros. Currently, this aid only represents a little more than 50% of the Minimum Interprofessional Salary, equivalent to 484.61 euros per month.
The reason behind this very low aid is that these citizens have not contributed enough to receive a higher pension for permanent disability from Social Security. In addition, some of them have not had a career path in their entire lives.
Faced with this situation, the Government of Spain is concerned about not leaving these citizens aside and provides them with minimal aid each month. The law establishes that the non-contributory disability payment will be paid in 12 monthly installments and two extraordinary payments, totaling 14 payments per year.
For non-contributory disability pensioners with a degree of disability equal to or greater than 75%, a supplement of 50% is granted. This applies to people who need assistance to carry out activities of daily living.
The plugin does not require an application, since the administration checks if the requirements are met and pays it automatically. Therefore, this supplement amounts to 242.31 euros per month.
This benefit is applied to non-contributory pensions with disabilities, which represents a total of more than 3,300 euros per year, specifically an additional amount of 3,392 euros. Thus, for people with disabilities greater than 75%, the Institute for the Elderly and Social Services pays 726.92 euros per month.
What requirements are nedeed to fulfill
However, to access this disability pension, the IMSERSO establishes certain fundamental requirements. Recipients of the 50% match must meet several of these requirements, the most crucial being demonstrating limited annual income.
In the year 2023, the annual income must not exceed 6,784.54 euros if you live with relatives. This is applicable to cohabitation units with kinship ties up to the second degree, such as parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren and siblings.
In the case of living with a spouse and second-degree relatives, the limit is 11,533.72 euros per year. For three cohabitants, the limit is set at 16,282.90 euros, and for four cohabitants, at 21,032.08 euros per year.
When the cohabiting relatives are parents or children, the limits are: two cohabitants, 28,834.30 euros per year; three cohabitants, 40,707.25 euros per year; and four or more cohabitants, 52,580.20 euros per year.
In addition, to access this pension, it is necessary to be between 18 and 65 years of age and have resided in Spain for at least 5 years, with at least 2 years of consecutive residence after the application.
