Warnock received the prestigious National Medal of Technology and Innovation from President Barack Obama; the Computer Entrepreneur Award from the IEEE Computer Society; the Medal of Achievement from the American Electronics Association; and the Marconi Prize for contributions to information and communication sciences.
Precisely, on August 9, the European Commission announced the opening of an in-depth investigation to assess whether the proposed purchase of the Figma design tool by the software company Adobe is in accordance with European competition regulations.
Brussels’ preliminary analysis is that the deal may reduce competition in the global markets for the supply of interactive product design software and digital asset creation tools.
That is why the European Executive has now launched an in-depth evaluation to determine the effects of the purchase and confirm whether Adobe would have a position that will allow it to restrict competition in its sector. He has until December to issue his verdict and give the green light or stop the operation.
Specifically, Brussels takes into account that Figma is the “clear leader” of the market and Adobe one of its biggest competitors and that their union would eliminate an important competitive force, in addition there is the unlikely entry of other players in the market.
It also believes that the purchase would have effects on the digital asset creation offering as it would remove Figma’s current constraining influence on Adobe’s digital asset creation tools, and impede Figma’s potential growth to become an effective competitor to Adobe.
The Commission will also investigate whether the transaction may exclude rival providers of interactive product design tools by including Figma in Adobe’s Creative Cloud suite.
