The Polish Parliament has just approved a controversial referendum on migration.

It consists of several complex questions apparently biased. One of them says in its statement that the admission of thousands of illegal migrants from the Middle East and Africa was due to a forced relocation mechanism imposed by the European bureaucracy.
The opposition strongly opposes the referendum. Former Polish Prime Minister and leader of the Civic Platform party, Donald Tusk, said the referendum “is invalid in the broadest sense of the word,” and the other opposition parties have declared they will not participate in it.
The referendum idea was suggested by the ruling Law and Justice party, which expressed concern about “a new wave” of migrants in the Mediterranean and increased migratory pressure on the border with Belarus.
The opposition blames the ruling party for “demonizing” the issue of migration and for creating a “smoke screen” over other important issues by focusing attention on migration issues.
In any case, the adoption of a resolution by Parliament means that the referendum will take place. It is scheduled to take place on October 15, the same day as the general election.
