Apple is once again trying to create a good mood when it comes to the Apple Card. The credit card introduced in the United States in 2019, which is closely linked to iPhone & Co., recently made negative headlines because there were problems with the banking partner Goldman Sachs – and customers complained about trouble with the savings account belonging to the credit card. Apple was recently able to announce that it had collected 10 billion US dollars in deposits. Another statement from the group now states that the Apple Card is the best card in its category in terms of customer satisfaction.

Customers don’t like fees
The data does not come from Apple itself, but from the market research company JD Power. The partners Apple and Goldman Sachs once again secured the top spot in the “US Credit Card Satisfaction Study”. Apple’s category is called “Best Co-Branded Credit Card with No Annual Fee”, i.e. any credit card from two brands that does not require an annual fee. “We’re honored that Apple Card has been recognized as a leader in customer experience,” said Jennifer Bailey, vice president of Apple Pay.
Above all, customers seem to appreciate Apple’s low – or non-existent – fees. There are no overdraft fees and other penalties that are known from other cards – with interest on non-payment of the full bill being up to almost 30 percent. The card also offers quite high cash back payments of up to three percent. The integration with iOS and Apple Pay should also be well received.
Sexism, customer support and lack of internationalization
However, Apple not only had some problems with customer acquisition and support at the start of the card. There were (refuted) accusations of sexism when the card contracts were concluded, and the support provided by Goldman Sachs is not always supposed to react quickly enough. Recently, there have been repeated problems with debiting savings back to one’s own account, which made users nervous.
Goldman Sachs is said to be trying to get out of the contract with Apple for a long time. However, this will continue for several years. Apple itself is apparently quite satisfied, although the planned internationalization of the Apple Card is not making any headway. While Apple Pay was also available in Europe within a few years, there is still nothing to be seen of the Apple Card.
