The excavations will continue until August 27.
The search begins for dozens of bodies of World War II German soldiers executed by the French Resistance.

Local authorities said in July that a possible “mass grave” had been found near Meymac in the Corrèze department. It came to light after a 98-year-old former Resistance fighter publicly denounced the events and revealed where they occurred.
If the excavation is successful, it will allow the bodies of soldiers forgotten in this place almost 80 years ago to be exhumed and returned to Germany.
The French National Office for Veterans and War Victims is leading the excavation, in cooperation with the organization responsible for maintaining German war graves.
