The load of matches at this point in the season is brutal for tennis players and in a day in which it was demonstrated with several falls of the main seeds, Alejandro Davidovich, current semifinalist in the Masters 1000 in Toronto, added cash to the payroll of retirees. The Spanish tennis player could not be a match for Novak Djokovic in the Serbian’s debut in Cincinnati and left after losing the first set, injured and with visible gestures of frustration.
Davidovich’s injury occurred at a time in the game in which everything remained even and neither of the two contenders gave too much, neither in terms of show nor success. Both had taken their serve forward, Nole on four occasions and Foki on three, when the Spaniard went to the locker room suffering from severe pain in the lower back. Seven minutes later, Alejandro would return with visible gestures of disapproval and then he would give up his serve for the first time, allowing Djokovic to get a break ahead in the light.
The current number two in the ATP ranking would not approve, which the relaxation harmed with an unexpected break that allowed Davidovich to have the equalizer in his hands again. However, the Spaniard could practically not rise to serve and gave up the first set for a 6-4 that would ultimately be final.

Davidovich says goodbye due to injury
Davidovich even tried it in the second set, but it was going to last less than a game. A forehand in which he strained his muscles left him completely stiff, even with a few tears in his eyes due to the mixture between pain and frustration, and the last movement he could make on the court was to access the net to congratulate Novak Djokovic for a bittersweet victory for the Serbian, who despite advancing to the round of 16, where he will face Gael Monfils, did not have the touch test in terms of pace and accumulation of competitive minutes that Alejandro Davidovich should have.
“This is useless. This doesn’t add up. Either you break your back or you leave », his coach, Jorge Aguirre, snapped from the box at a Davidovich who could not believe what was happening to him in one of his most important games of the year. However, what comes next, the US Open in just over a week and a half, is even more relevant and driven by pain and the advice of his coach, Foki took his foot off the accelerator and opted for a hard withdrawal, but smart given the circumstances.
