Accessories supplier Zagg has introduced a stylus for iPads that is based heavily on the functions of Apple’s own Pencil 2. Already available in the US, the Pro Stylus 2 is the first competitor to feature built-in charging magnets in a similar form factor to Apple’s version. The range of functions is also based on Apple.

Charge wirelessly too
The Pro Stylus 2 can be charged via Qi using a charging pad or with a charging station supplied. It should also be possible, like the Apple Pencil 2, to draw power from the iPad itself if it is magnetically attached to the tablet. According to Zagg, iPad Pro 11 and 12.9 are supported here – what about iPad Air and iPad mini initially remained unclear.
The Pro Stylus 2 comes with Tilt Recognition, the tip is replaceable (one is included) and the palm rejection technology is said to be similar to Apple’s. According to Zagg, the pen is compatible with all programs that also support the Apple Pencil 2. Nevertheless, the system shouldn’t be quite as responsive as Apple’s in-house variant. iPads from 2018 can be used.
Colorful design
Instead of just one color like Apple, the Pro Stylus 2 comes in five, including white, grey, yellow, blue and pink. The price in the United States is 80 US dollars, euro prices are not yet available, and Zagg has not yet announced any delivery dates for the DACH region. For comparison: The Apple Pencil 2 costs $130 in the iPad manufacturer’s home market (although it’s cheaper in stores).
The battery of the Pro Stylus 2 is supposed to last six and a half hours at a time – at least on paper. Like Apple’s Pencil 2, both the pen tip and the “eraser” side of the Pro Stylus 2 can be used. Note that the pen turns off after 15 minutes of inactivity. Then you have to turn it on again with the button on the “eraser” page. This is easier to solve with Apple, since the system activates itself again directly. The Pro Stylus 2 is also integrated less closely to the system than the Apple Pencil 2.
