These are the three directions: Bakhmut, Melitopol and Berdiansk. Let’s take a closer look at this one.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has announced the liberation of the town of Urozhaine, in the Donetsk region.
Lying just over 90km from the Sea of Azov, Urozhaine, with an estimated pre-war population of about 1,000, is part of a group of villages that Ukrainian forces have been trying to conquer in recent weeks.
Its reconquest signals that Ukraine is going ahead with an offensive to the south, towards the Sea of Azov, which aims to halve the occupying Russian forces.
Ukrainian Colonel Petro Chernyk stated that the Ukrainian counter-offensive in southern Ukraine is progressing slowly because Ukrainian forces must overcome a three-square Russian defensive line: a front line of minefields several kilometers wide; a second line with concentrations of artillery, equipment and personnel; and a third line of rear positions intended to preserve resources.
The recapture of Urozhaine would bring Ukraine closer to the threat of the village of Staromlynivka, several kilometers to the south, which military analysts say serves as a Russian stronghold in the area.
