About forty trains from six Rodalies lines, including the R2 Sur and other long-distance services that run conventionally, have been affected by the derailment this morning at Sitges station (Barcelona) of a Valencia-Barcelona Talgo without passage, from which the two engineers traveling in the convoy have been unharmed. Adif works to restore rail traffic, which was cut off at 8:00 p.m., between the Garraf and Vilanova stations. Renfe has established an alternative coach service between the two stations.
The public operator has informed that, as today is a public holiday, it is difficult to calculate the number of passengers who are being affected by this incident, to which has been added a problem in signaling the change of needles in Gelida (Barcelona ), which has paralyzed the high-speed line between Barcelona and Lleida in the section between Sant Vicenç de Calders (Tarragona) and Vilafranca del Penedès (Barcelona) for more than an hour.
The derailment of the Talgo occurred around 9:50 a.m. for reasons that are being investigated and has forced the interruption of traffic in the Garraf region, which has affected all trains on the R2 Sur commuter lines; R13; R14; R15; R16 and R17 and those of Long Distance that circulate by the same route. The Generalitat Firefighters have moved six units to the place to ensure that the catenary current was cut off. Civil Protection has activated the Ferrocat plan for emergencies in passenger transport by rail in the pre-alert phase.

Renfe technicians are working on site to put the accident train back on track and Adif personnel are repairing the track, although at the moment it is unknown how long the work may last. Renfe informs that up to Castelldefels the service that connects it with Barcelona is provided normally. From that station to Vilanova i la Geltrú the alternative bus service continues to operate. Red Cross personnel have been in charge of supplying supplies to the people who accumulate at the station. Passengers traveling to Garraf can reach their destination by train and those of the Intercity trains of the Mediterranean Corridor (two in each direction). Renfe offers them to do so on long-distance trains that use the Camp de Tarragona-Barcelona high-speed line .
Traffic between Vilanova i la Geltrú and Garraf is suspended due to the derailment of a train at Sitges station, leaving both tracks intercepted. Affectation: Long, Medium Distance and Cercanías trains of the R-2 Sud line of the center of Barcelona.
