Amazon is now increasing the price of its Music Unlimited music subscription for Prime customers as well. The company has confirmed corresponding media reports from the USA. Prices have also risen in Germany, as a look at Amazon’s subscription structure shows.

As a Prime customer, you now pay 10 euros a month instead of the previous 9 euros for the Music Unlimited subscription. With an annual subscription, the costs increase from 90 to 100 euros. Amazon had already raised prices for customers without a Prime subscription in January. Since the beginning of the year you have been paying 11 euros per month instead of the previous 10 euros.
Amazon has not yet announced the new prices. But they already appear in the subscription overview.

Higher licensing costs
The student tariff has meanwhile increased from 5 to 6 euros per month, the family subscription from 15 to 17 euros per month. These price increases have been in effect since February. They are necessary in order to be able to continue to offer the service in the usual quality, Amazon writes in its email to affected customers. The cost of the service has increased significantly over the past three years. For example, the licensing costs for Prime Music content increased by 10.6 percent per customer.
Expenditure on personnel and technical infrastructure is now also higher – by exactly 41.4 percent per customer compared to January 2019. In addition to economic developments, Amazon also justified these cost increases “with competitive and regulatory requirements”.
Amazon has also increased the price of the Prime subscription itself. For a year now, Prime members have been paying 9 instead of 8 euros per month, and 90 instead of 70 euros per year. In principle, Prime customers can listen to music on Prime Music without paying a surcharge for a subscription at all. However, this music playback is severely limited. The music catalog is only available to Prime customers in shuffle mode. The Amazon Music Unlimited subscription removes the shuffle requirement and provides instant access to the music streaming service’s songs and content.
