Landismo, always alive, always in motion, always in transformation, has become remcolandismo. He is the latest reincarnation of Mikel Landa, who was told by Remco Evenepoel in San Sebastián that he wanted him in the team he was building to win the next Tour, and he said yes. This is officially announced by Soudal-Quick Step, the team of the Belgian phenomenon, with which Landa, 33, has signed up for the next two seasons.
Seven years after giving rise to the #FreeLanda movement organized by the fans who suffered watching him work on the 2017 Tour for the fourth victorious Tour of his boss on the Sky, Chris Froome, the climber from Murgia (Álava) voluntarily agrees to work as a gregarious for another leader. In between, two years turbulently sharing leadership at Movistar with Nairo Quintana and Alejandro Valverde, and helping Richard Carapaz win the 2019 Giro, and four years as sole leader at Bahrain, a team with which he managed to finish third in the Giro. of 2022, but in which he did not reach the brilliance that in 2014 and 2015, when, leaving his ambitions in the background to help Fabio Aru in Astana, he became the Spanish cyclist of the future thanks to two stage victories in the 2015 Giro, at Madonna di Campiglio and Mortirolo, and an attack at Le Finestre, in which he jeopardized Alberto Contador’s final victory and a third-place finish.
“I am happy and highly motivated to help Remco achieve its goals. I come here with a lot of experience in the grand tours, in which I have fought for the podium (he was fourth in the Tour twice) and I have helped others to win (apart from being fundamental in the triumphs of Carapaz and Froome, he also worked for that Aru ended up demolishing Dumoulin and winning the 2015 Tour), and I have always found myself very comfortable helping younger cyclists”, says landa in statements sent by his future team, and in which he finished outlining the scope of remcolandismo : “I am convinced that I can help Remco a lot and at the same time, when they give me the opportunity in some races, get good results for myself”.
