Lithuania closes two checkpoints with Belarus and discusses a possible border closure alleging that there is a hybrid threat from the East. Vilnius claims that there is worrying activity by the Russian Wagner group, which has moved into Belarus after a failed march on Moscow.

“The main point and objective is to have as many border guards on the border as possible. That is what is being done. Because that is where they are needed the most. Our State Border Guard is making these plans so that there are people on the border and not doing administrative work,” said Lithuanian Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite.
Border security has been one of the main issues on the table during the visit of Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs to Warsaw. His Polish colleague Andrzej Duda highlighted the threats of hybrid aggression from Belarus and promised to provide military aid to Latvia if necessary.
Poland has closed all but one checkpoint with Belarus this year. Latvia mobilizes border guards and calls for additional troops to protect the eastern border. This decision has been made after Riga counted more than 90 attempts by illegal immigrants to enter the country from Belarus in 24 hours.
