The Investigating Court No. 5 of Granada, in charge of the investigation of the kidnapping of the then socialist councilor of Maracena (Granda) Vanessa Romero, has provisionally released the only person arrested for these events, who at that time was the boyfriend of the mayoress, Berta Linares (PSOE), and who was in provisional prison since last February, six months ago. The order, issued at the end of July, includes among the obligations to comply with a restraining order from the victim.
Sources of the case, who have detailed that to adopt this measure, the judge takes into account the delay that the Judicial Police itself has reported, which may entail carrying out the procedures provided for in the investigation, in which some evidence is pending. The kidnapped former mayor has framed the events in an alleged urban plot in the Maracena City Council that is already being investigated by Justice.
The judge agreed that the alleged kidnapper, accused of committing a crime of illegal detention, be admitted to provisional prison, communicated and without bail, since February 24, three days after the events. In July, they declared the former socialist mayor and the then Town Planning councilor Antonio García, also from the PSOE, as alleged inducers, shortly after the investigating court eliminated the separate piece opened to investigate Berta Linares and the aforementioned mayor, so that it passed to do so within the same cause as the alleged kidnapper and only detainee, now on provisional release, a measure advanced this Wednesday by Onda Cero.
All this after the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia returned the matter to the investigating judge without initiating prior criminal investigation proceedings against the regional deputy of the PSOE and appraised Noel López, also initially indicated, on the understanding that the necessary proceedings had not been exhausted. research. The socialist was removed from his responsibilities as ‘number two’ of the Andalusian PSOE, although he has already regained his position, as recently confirmed by the PSOE-A general secretary.
Linares resigned after the municipal elections last May, after the PSOE went over to the opposition after landing the PP in the Mayor’s Office.
During her statement as being investigated on July 12, the former mayor defended her innocence and acknowledged that she helped “find” and “arrest” the kidnapper, then her sentimental partner. In her statement, which lasted for about two and a half hours, she only answered the questions of the judge investigating the case, the Prosecutor’s Office and her lawyer. The person who was the mayor of Town Planning at the time of the events entered to testify after her and the judge did not order any precautionary measure against them.
Kidnapping
The kidnapping occurred on the morning of February 21, after the councilor, who was in charge of the 2030 Agenda competitions, left her children at school and met the kidnapper, whom she knew because of his sentimental relationship with the mayoress. of Maracena. Supposedly, the defendant gave her as an excuse to get into her car that she had run out of gasoline and once inside the vehicle he threatened her with a gun that the Civil Guard had already confirmed was simulated.
At one point, he allegedly tied the mayor with ties on her hands and feet, covered her head, and forced her to get into the trunk of her vehicle, which she parked in a store in the neighboring town of Armilla before leaving. She managed to escape and ask for help and later reported the events to the Civil Guard.
