Digital euro: German banking industry fears competition and abuse

The plans for the digital euro are being met with increasing criticism from banks and savings banks. This is shown by the statement by the German Banking Industry Association (DK), an association of various banking and savings bank associations. The focus of the criticism is the fear that the digital euro could develop into competition for banks and savings banks. There would also be a risk of financial market instability and a high potential for abuse. According to the association, the EU Commission is planning to design the digital euro as a digital payment method – and not just as a digital means of payment. However, this would put the digital euro in competition with the SEPA standard (Single Euro Payments Area) and the associated SEPA procedure.

Threads from Meta: Use has plummeted again a month after opening
After the unprecedented start of the Twitter alternative threads from Facebook mother Meta, the usage figures have apparently collapsed again. This is reported by the web analysis company Similarweb, citing estimates based on numbers from Android. According to this, more than 49 million users were active in the app available there at the beginning of July, a month later there were only 10 million. In the home market of the USA, the number has therefore fallen somewhat less sharply from 2.3 million to a good 570,000 users. At the same time, the average duration of use has fallen significantly more and was recently only three minutes per day. Again, these numbers are far from X (formerly Twitter). Since Elon Musk took over Twitter, there have been no official user numbers. Most recently, more than 200 million active users were mentioned.
YouTube is taking stronger action against medical disinformation
Youtube has developed a set of rules to restrict medical disinformation on the video platform. YouTube announced this on its blog. In the future, the new guidelines should be clearer and easier to understand for creative professionals, viewers and partners. The further developments in medicine make it necessary to develop a set of rules for YouTube that will last in the long term, according to the company’s statement. A balance should be found between a space for discussion of medical content on the one hand and the removal of “harmful content” on the other. Youtube wants to ensure that medical content is provided on the video platform on which there is a scientific consensus. YouTube does not want to offer a platform for information that could harm people.

“Diablo 3”: Always online until the end
With season 29, Blizzard says goodbye to the active further development of “Diablo 3”. Finally, the eleven-year-old action role-playing game gets an optional single-player mode called “Solo Self Found”. In it you play the well-known content of “Diablo 3” alone, so you can neither form parties nor trade with other players – a kind of challenge mode. Solo Self Found is now available to try on the Diablo 3 test servers. “Diablo 3” needs a permanent internet connection to play. A moderator in the Blizzard forum confirms that players must also be connected to the Internet for the single-player mode.
