Many people interested in a balcony power plant are currently speculating on an impending change in the law that will allow a higher inverter output of 800 watts. On Wednesday, the federal cabinet is to deal with solar package 1. The draft law could then be passed on to the Bundestag and Bundesrat in the next step. Assuming the relevant resolutions are passed, the law could come into force on January 1, 2024.

The amendment to the Renewable Energy Sources Act is intended to make it more attractive to operate so-called plug-in solar systems. While a maximum output of 600 watts previously applied, in the future even solar cells with an output of 2000 watts will be allowed. The output of the inverter should then be a maximum of 800 watts.
Fewer reporting requirements
The elimination of the obligation to report to the network operator makes things easier. However, the legislator also intends to streamline the reporting to the Federal Network Agency’s market master data register, which is still necessary. Eleven data that previously had to be reported are to be omitted.
According to the draft law, the systems can also be operated without digital electricity meters in the future. The network operators are asked to replace the old Ferraris meters – as long as they do not do this, however, this is no longer a hurdle. Advantage for the user: If more electricity is generated than consumed, such an old meter turns backwards.
contribution to the energy transition

The leading Federal Ministry of Economics sees plug-in solar devices as a “low-threshold opportunity” to participate in the energy transition. The solar package is also intended to simplify, among other things, the construction of large solar systems on farmland and fields. The ministry presented its photovoltaic strategy in the spring.
