Controversy in the Paralympic Cycling World Cup: Ricardo Ten is given a watch when he has no hands

Surreal what he experienced in the Super World Cycling Championship held in Glasgow. Paralympic cyclist Ricardo Ten gave Spain three gold medals, which made him stand on the podium three times. Later, the awards ceremony caused a great controversy and a stir because the organization presented him with a wristwatch. It should be noted that the athlete has no hands due to an accident he suffered as a child. The Spaniard had to amputate both arms, leaving both at elbow height, and one of his legs.

It is true that the delivery of this watch was due to an advertising agreement from an exclusive watch brand, but this was not let go on social networks, which criticized the lack of tact with the Spanish cyclist. However, Ricardo Ten took this episode with humor and responded on Twitter to the watch brand and the organization for this gift: “Thank you for believing in this world of super inclusion,” he wrote on Twitter.

The 47-year-old cyclist had both arms amputated up to the elbow as well as one leg after he was involved in a serious accident when he was just eight years old. Ricardo Ten touched some high voltage cables and 75% of his body was left with third degree burns. “When I was little, I touched a high voltage power line and almost killed myself. Both hands and my left leg had to be amputated. I had third-degree burns on 75% of my body,” explained the Valencian.

But Ricardo Ten is a clear example of improvement. The Spaniard did not lose his enthusiasm in sports and continued to practice various disciplines. In fact, he participated in adapted swimming in seven Paralympic Games. Later, at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, he won bronze in adapted track cycling. To this day he accumulates eight medals in the Olympics.
