In the last week, the video of ‘Ben The Vet’ has gone viral on TikTok in which he explains which are the most difficult dog breeds to breed.
Husky
“They are super cute pups, beautiful dogs and they can be loyal pets, but they really aren’t for everyone. A few years ago, there was a massive boom in their number,” the specialist begins by explaining.
And he adds: “They need a lot of exercise. It must be remembered that these dogs were bred to pull sleds long distances in cold weather conditions. A five to 10 minute walk around the block is not enough. If you don’t keep them active and stimulated enough, they just get bored and start displaying unwanted behaviors, and very easily become overweight.”
rescued stray dogs
“I have met many, many of them who are extremely anxious and have serious behavior problems. Most of the time, this is simply because they haven’t socialized with humans. This has to happen before three or four months of age if a dog is not going to be afraid of people,” he says.
Cockapoos
The vet believes they “make fantastic family pets, but are often underestimated.” He argues: “They are a cross between a poodle, which is very intelligent, and the very energetic cocker spaniel, so they are definitely not lap dogs. There is also a misconception that they are hypoallergenic and good for people with dog allergies to live with, but there is very little evidence to support this.”
German shepherd
The reason the German Shepherd is one of the most difficult dog breeds to breed is because “there is a long list of health problems to which they are genetically predisposed. Hip and elbow dysplasia is a huge problem in the breed, and it can be detected. So make sure that if you’re going to get one, that both parents have been tested for these problems and have good results.”
french bulldog
I know I’m always harping on them, but it’s a good reason. What new Frenchie owners often underestimate is the financial commitment they are making. French bulldogs, unfortunately, are dogs with a low state of health,” says the specialist.
He concludes: “Owning a dog that is never completely well and may have a shorter life expectancy can also place a great deal of emotional strain on pet owners.”
