Extremadura has registered in recent weeks the first forest fires of the summer in the region. The last of these fires occurred in the Cáceres town of Valencia de Alcántara. The Junta de Extremadura has reported the evolution of the event in a timely manner through the Forest Management and Rural World portfolio, with the ultra-right party Vox at the helm, after the government pact with the popular María Guardiola. Vox has also reported on the event through a press release through its channels to the media under the initials of the formation. A practice that has never been done before in Extremadura by the parties that have been in government.
From the ultra corporation they have affirmed that they have issued the statement in this way because the council is theirs, but they also say that they are trying to clarify what happened and that they have to refine the communication processes. In the middle of the afternoon, Vox sent a statement acknowledging its error and that it was “a coordination problem” to have “sent the press releases through inappropriate channels.” The corporation has also reported that the press releases will be “sent by the General Directorate of Communication of the Junta de Extremadura”. They have also wanted to disassociate themselves from an attempt to “go it alone” and attribute the error to the fact that the Ministry’s press teams have not yet been named. This is the first of the Vox fronts under the command of the Ministry of Forest Management and the Rural World, powers that it agreed with María Guardiola to form a government.
The president of the Extremadura Association of Forestry and Environmental Companies, Francisco Castañares, tells EL PAÍS that it is a practice that he had not seen in his entire life. “It seems a bit surprising to me, the political parties have never carried out this function of transferring to the public opinion a report that corresponds to the official channels and not to the political formations”, says Castañares.
For the moment, the Junta de Extremadura has not wanted to rule on this fact. Neither have Vox’s government partners, the Popular Party. But they have criticized it from the opposition. United for Extremadura affirms that this reveals the type of people that María Guardiola has brought into the institutions. “This statement means an appropriation of the institutions, of the Ministry of Rural Affairs for partisan use of Vox, reveals the moral character and lack of preparation,” said this Wednesday the deputy of the corporation of the Assembly of Extremadura José Antonio González. From this party they emphasize that Vox has appropriated regional information, a council that they also hold. They have also asked the president of the Junta de Extremadura, María Guardiola, to take action on the matter.
From the PSOE, its parliamentary deputy Juan Ramón Ferreira assures that they are concerned that the official communication channels of the Junta de Extremadura are confused, especially in something as serious as a fire. “The channels of the Infoex Plan have been working perfectly in recent years for all citizens about the fires, it is necessary to guarantee that the public is informed,” says the socialist parliamentarian. Ferreira asks the Junta de Extremadura that the official communication channels be objective towards the public and that there be a separation of information with the political parties.
In addition to managing the fires and the rural world, María Guardiola granted Vox the position of regional senator and tried to get him to enter the Assembly table after the June confrontation between the two formations left the presidency in the hands of the PSOE of the autonomous chamber.
