The heat wave reaches its peak of intensity this Wednesday. Temperatures of more than 40° are expected at points throughout the Peninsula, even in cities like Burgos and Soria, whose thermometers have never reached that figure before. The State Meteorological Agency has issued 12 red notices, of extreme risk due to high temperatures, in nine provinces: the south of the Community of Madrid, areas of the Guadalquivir valley in Jaén and the regions of Morena and Condado, also in Jaén; the inland area of Bizkaia and Guipuzkoa, in the Basque Country; the Cordoba countryside; the Genil Basin in Granada; the north of the province of Burgos and some areas of the province of Cuenca. At this level, the highest of the three notices, it is recommended not to carry out any activity that involves going out into the street during the central hours of the day, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

This Wednesday it will be possible to reach 38° and 40° in large areas of the peninsular interior, 40° and 42° in the southern and central half, also in the interior of the Basque Country and north of Burgos, and even 44° in areas from Andalusia. And the day has already begun after a tropical night, with temperatures that have not dropped below 20°, and even above 25° in the southern half, central zone and Mediterranean area.
Without reaching high risk, the orange warnings (for significant risk) reach 29 provinces this Wednesday, with the exception of the coasts, the Cantabrian mountain range, the Pyrenees and the province of León, which are still under yellow warning (low risk). In the second half of this day, dry storms are likely to occur in areas of the interior of the peninsula that will produce strong gusts of wind and sudden drops in temperature. The Cantabrian coast is also on notice for a possible gale late in the day, associated with sudden temperature drops and strong gusts of wind.
The heat wave, which began on Monday, has so far left records of 38° and 40° in the center and southwest of the peninsula, and exceeded 40° in the Guadiana and Guadalquivir valleys. This Tuesday temperatures increased between 6° and 8° in a general way compared to the previous day.
After the hard day of heat this Wednesday, tomorrow it is likely that the temperature drop, which will have already been noticed in the west of the peninsula, will spread inland during the following days and towards the rest of the peninsular area. The temperatures will continue to be high but milder than the previous days. The uncertainty of the atmospheric evolution is not as high as the previous days and, according to the latest information from the numerical models, Friday the 11th will probably be the last of this heat wave episode.

In the case of the Canary Islands, which is not yet submerged in it, it will have a progressive rise in temperatures this Wednesday and, from Thursday, an episode of high temperatures. Friday and Saturday will most likely be the hottest days of the episode on the islands. Although it is still too early to talk about a heat wave in the archipelago.
