Valve’s Steam Deck mobile console is now also available for purchase overhauled. According to Valve, the refurbished repair devices were reset to the factory settings and comprehensively tested “with over 100 tests”. This includes checking the connections, the audio system and the screen.

The condition of the battery is also checked on the refurbished devices, which is intended to ensure flawless function and longevity. Valve offers the overhauled Steam Decks on a specially set up website.
You can save a lot by buying a refurbished device: The smallest version with 64 GB of storage space costs 340 euros compared to the regular 420 euros. In the more expensive versions, the savings are even higher: the medium version (256 GB) costs 440 instead of 550 euros after a general overhaul, the largest version with 512 GB of storage space and anti-reflective glass costs 540 instead of 680 euros.
“Minor signs of use”
“All refurbished devices meet or exceed the performance requirements of new retail devices,” writes Valve. “Minor signs of use” are to be expected, but the devices should guarantee a reliable gaming experience.
Valve already operates repair centers to fix faulty or damaged Steam Decks. Customers affected by defects should contact support, who can initiate shipment to a repair center. According to Valve, defects that are not covered by the warranty can also be repaired in the repair centers – for a fee.
Alternatively, you can also repair your Steam Deck yourself. Replacement parts are available from iFixit specialists. The portal rates the repairability of the hybrid PC as good: “For a handheld gaming console that will certainly be taken everywhere, stuffed into backpacks and passed from hand to hand, repairability is a particularly important quality. Valve doesn’t have all of our wishes – but the Steam Deck scored a respectable 7 out of 10 on our repairability index,” writes iFixit in its review.
