Antonio Mateu Lahoz hung up his whistle at the end of last season, but he already has a new role linked to the world of football. The former international referee has joined the Movistar team, the platform that owns the television rights for LaLiga EA Sports and the Champions League, among other competitions, where he will act as the new referee commentator both in the matches of the highest continental competition and in the ‘The Day After’ program.

Mateu Lahoz became one of the most renowned referees in our football. In the League he whistled 287 games, making his debut in September 2008 in a duel where Sevilla beat Sportig de Gijón 4-3. Only two referees have whistled more than him in the top flight, Undiano Mallenco (348) and Iturralde González (291). Mallorca-Rayo was his last game.
Internationally, it has also been highly recognized. He achieved this status in 2011 and was chosen by FIFA and UEFA to be part of the referees who delivered justice at the 2016 Olympic Games that were held in Rio, at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, and at the 2020 Euro Cup. the 2021 Champions League final between City and Chelsea.
