Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin have had a dream first part of the season. Nothing and no one suggested that they would be third in the drivers’ championship, as well as in the constructors’ championship after being one of the worst teams on the grid last season. Now, the Asturian reviews these six seven months at Aston Martin and declares his happiness for being in a “future” project.
His age has been another of the topics that has been talked about the most. In fact, his 42 years were decisive for Alpine when it came to not renewing his contract last year: «I think people have seen that there is not a big change when you are 41 years old or when you are 25. It’s more in your head, in the motivation, in how you approach the weekends. It’s not about youth, it’s just about going fast.”
«Since the season began I have been reading, listening and responding to the fact that I was ‘almost’ 42 years old… Now I can finally say that I am 42. I am happy where I am, there is a project here for the future. I am very proud”, adds Fernando Alonso.
On the other hand, Fernando Alonso will always be accompanied by the decisions (good or bad) that he has made in the choice of teams since he left Ferrari. The Spaniard had bad luck at McLaren and at Alpine, but now at Aston Martin he is happier than ever. This is demonstrated in a statement for Pit Debrief: »It would be good to have a crystal ball before making the decision to change teams and know the future. Obviously you never know.”
Finally, Alonso talks about living a dream at Aston Martin, something they did not expect at the beginning of the season: »It has been a dreamy first half of the season. We are third in the constructors’ championship and in the drivers’ championship. It was impossible to think this way in Bahrain.”
