iPhone leak – and this time from Apple itself: Developers have discovered evidence of a total of six new smartphone models in beta versions of tvOS 17, the upcoming operating system for Apple TV devices. The so-called model identifiers were in the code from tvOS 17 Beta 1 to tvOS 17 Beta 5, like the developer and leak expert @aaronp613 writes on X – albeit in different compositions. In the Beta 5 of tvOS 17 that was released on Tuesday, four references from Apple were deleted, but two more appeared.

Two standard iPhones, two Pro models?
If the model identifiers are correct, there would probably be two regular iPhones and two Pro models as usual. The devices are called iPhone15.4 and iPhone15.5 (standard models) and iPhone16.1 and iPhone16.2 (Pro variants). “iPhone15” has so far referred to iPhones with the A16 bionic chip, that was iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max in 2022. The rumor mill is currently expecting this SoC to end up in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max (“iPhone16”), on the other hand, would probably get the new A17 chip in the 3 nm process.
But Apple makes it even more exciting: In tvOS 17 Beta 5, two additional model identifiers were added that were not previously known: iPhone14,1 and iPhone14,9. “iPhone14” are devices with the A15 Bionic from 2021. This SoC has so far been in the iPhone 14, 14 Plus, all 13 iPhones and the third-generation iPhone SE. “iPhone14.1” and “iPhone14.9” can be new editions of old models or Apple can only serve as a test – at the moment (almost) nobody is assuming that an iPhone SE 4 will appear in the foreseeable future, especially since it will probably be a newer one SoC would receive.
Neue Model Identifier – Relaunch mit USB-C?
There is a third possibility: Apple could plan to relaunch old models – with the change that the Lightning connector would be exchanged for USB-C. It is already agreed that all new iPhones will be equipped with the standard socket. Apple is also preparing other devices, including the AirPods.
So it would be conceivable that the group would leave the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone SE 3 on the market, but with USB-C instead of Lightning. With that, all models that are interesting for Apple would be ready for the new regulation of the EU Commission in one fell swoop.
