AirTags 2 is not expected until the end of 2024. According to a well-informed analyst, mass production of the second AirTag generation will begin in the fourth quarter of 2024, around three and a half years after the start of sales of the previously known model series. Apple will also integrate the trackers with the Vision Pro headset as part of its major “spatial computing” push. explains the analyst Ming-Chi Kuowithout giving any further details.

Accurate AirTag location in space
AirTags can already be located very precisely in space thanks to their U1 ultra-broadband chip, if the associated iPhone also supports this. The search for the lost key or another object tracked by AirTag could easily be visualized in the Vision Pro and displayed in the passthrough image of one’s own environment.
One can only speculate about further AirTag innovations, for example an extension of the battery life would be conceivable – so far, the button cell usually has to be replaced after around 1 to 2 years.
New AirTag features with iOS 17
With iOS 17, the first AirTag generation has a central functional extension that many buyers have missed so far: the trackers can be used together with other people for the first time in conjunction with the upcoming version of the operating system. This not only makes it possible to locate a shared key, for example, but also prevents annoying stalking warnings about the supposedly foreign AirTag. Apple has also promised a feature for iOS so that iPhones can also warn about trackers from other manufacturers that are in tow. Apparently, Apple still needs time for the implementation: Google therefore recently announced that it would postpone the introduction of its own tracking network.
