It’s actually been quiet lately in the smoldering conflict between X owner Elon Musk and iPhone maker Apple. There was even a brief hint last year that Apple might remove what was then called Twitter from its iOS software store. A clarifying conversation between Musk and Apple boss Tim Cook helped here. But now the dispute could flare up again: This time it’s about the commission that Apple charges for transactions in the App Store – and thus also for X content.

“Global Internet Tax”
Musk has been criticizing the standard 30 percent fee for years, calling it a “global Internet tax,” among other things. The X-Abo Blue costs more to compensate on Apple devices if you do not take out the service directly via the website. Musk’s latest foray is not about Blue, but about a subscription feature offered to creators. Because here, too, fees are due to Apple.
in one Post from this week Musk announces that he wants to talk to Tim Cook (again). Currently, X does not collect a cent of this income itself, after twelve months only when it is over 100,000 US dollars. The X fee is then 10 percent. Musk’s idea is that Apple X will make a special agreement possible in the future. “I want to see if it’s feasible that this is adjusted so that only 30 percent of what X keeps[has to be paid for],” the X owner said.
No small business rule
The goal is to “maximize” what creators can get. That does mean, however, that as of this writing, X may well be planning to pass the Apple fee entirely on to the creators — although the company could actually foot the bill. Apple itself has made it possible for small business owners with annual sales of up to $1 million to pay off just 15 percent. However, since X is the contractual partner in this case, the 30 percent should apply immediately because the subscriptions will certainly exceed this mark.
X also offers a new one in addition to the subscriptions for paid content Ads Revenue Sharing where X-Blue users and “verified organizations” can get a share of the advertising revenue. However, Apple gets nothing here because it is not a subscription service via its platform.
