After taking his statement, the judge has ordered his admission to prison for murder. In a statement, the young man’s family has called on the media to “refrain from issuing any hasty judgment” about the events.
The news jumped on Saturday afternoon. Daniel Sancho, son of the well-known Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho, was arrested in Thailand accused of murdering a renowned Colombian plastic surgeon, Edwin Arrieta Arteaga. Later it was known that Sancho had confessed to the responsibility of the crime.
According to Thai police sources, this morning Sancho left the Koh Phangan police station (southern Thailand) and was transferred by private boat to the neighboring island of Koh Samui, where a judge ordered his imprisonment for murder. Before the transfer and asked about it, the young Spaniard has assured from the police station that he wants to “collaborate in everything he can”. He will remain in this prison at least until the trial begins and from now on he will be subjected to ten-day isolation under the covid-19 protocol, during which time he can only be visited by his legal representative.
Arrieta’s body was dismembered and the first remains were found by police in tourist Koh Phangan on Thursday. Aged 44, he was a plastic surgeon from the Colombian town of Lorica, in the department of Córdoba (north).
In a conversation with the EFE news agency on Sunday, Daniel Sancho pleaded guilty to the crime: “I am guilty, but I was Edwin’s hostage. He held me hostage. It was a glass cage, but it was a cage,” he said. .
According to the police report, Sancho arrived in Koh Phangan on July 31 and on August 1 bought knives and black and green garbage bags from a shop on the island. Arrieta did not arrive on the island until Wednesday, August 2. Apparently, the 29-year-old was spending a holiday in Thailand with the doctor on Koh Phangan.
It was Sancho himself who reported Arrieta’s disappearance on Thursday night at the Koh Phangan police station. In a statement, the family of the arrested man has demanded that the media “refrain from issuing any hasty judgment” about the events.
