storage2day, the two-day conference for storage systems from iX and dpunkt.verlag, starts on September 27th – this time in the middle of Frankfurt/Main, the secret data center capital of Germany. Tickets are available until August 14th for 499 euros instead of the regular 599 euros (plus 19 percent VAT). Catering and participation in the evening event are included.

Participants can expect a densely packed program with two keynotes and three parallel tracks with a total of 33 lectures. storage2day is aimed at storage practitioners who want to find out first-hand about current challenges and trends.
Storage recovery after the major loss
In his opening keynote, Frank Benke takes the audience on a journey into the worst-case scenario. He reports on concrete experiences from a real ransomware attack on the IT infrastructure of the HAHN Group, whose operational IT he has been managing for eight years. He presents system architectures for hardening backups, illuminates forensic approaches and provides assistance in evaluating the performance promises of common backup solutions. The next two presentations also deal with protecting storage against ransomware and surviving major failures.
The second keynote, by Hartwig Bazanella, deals with the Energy Efficiency Act and its consequences for data centers. Notoriously underutilized servers still mean that cooling and ventilation draw far more power than they should. Hyperconvergence in combination with a sensible container architecture or logical data centers across different locations offer the opportunity to change that.
Other practice-oriented lectures focus on concrete strategies and methods for OpenStack and Ceph – for example in combination with Kubernetes and DAOS. In addition, experts share experiences and concepts from automation with Ansible – such as automated Oracle Rapid Cloning – with which storage administrators can meet the unabatedly growing demands on the storage architecture and scratch the last scalability limits in the terabyte range.
