Italian coast guards had to battle strong winds and heavy seas to rescue several migrants this weekend.
One of the groups was on this rocky reef near Lampedusa. Among them were a child and two pregnant women. They had been on the rocks since Friday. They were transferred to the island’s migrant center.

They are part of the dozens of people who were shipwrecked these days. Three smuggling boats have sunk in the area in separate incidents over the weekend.
Earlier, coast guards pulled dozens of people from the rough seas after their boats capsized.
It is believed that around thirty are still missing. Italian authorities say they recovered the lifeless bodies of a child and a woman and rescued 57 immigrants. Prior to these latest incidents, more than 1,800 migrants are known to have died this year trying to cross the Mediterranean.
