Iván Espinosa de los Monteros, who during the last legislature served as Vox’s parliamentary spokesman, has decided to leave the leadership of the ultra party just over a week after the constitution of Congress, according to El Mundo this morning. The resignation comes two days after Santiago Abascal handed over the votes of the 33 ultra deputies to Alberto Núñez Feijóo without conditions and in the midst of the rise of power within the far-right party with the toughest profiles, headed by Jorge Buxadé, MEP and responsible for the political area. This strength of Abascal’s ideological bunker was evident in the preparation of the lists and was isolating Espinosa de los Monteros and the less ultramontanes. Buxadé has avoided confirming this morning the resignation of his fellow ranks.
The until now spokesman for Vox, also a former general secretary of the party, has called a press conference this noon to communicate his future, as confirmed by Buxadé during an interview at Cope, where he has not confirmed his resignation. “I’m not going to make any comments,” he said: “If he has called a press conference, let’s wait for what he says. He is a great parliamentarian, a colleague and a friend. He is Vox, he is history, he is the present and he is the future of Vox. He has been the general secretary of this party, general secretary, spokesman in Congress and beyond, I cannot tell you ”.
