Last Saturday in Tel Aviv, a security agent lost his life as a result of an armed attack carried out by a Palestinian individual. In response, another officer opened fire and neutralized the assailant, who was also killed. Islamic Jihad has claimed responsibility for the attack.
A 42-year-old police officer was killed in a shooting in Tel-Aviv this Saturday night. According to the police, two officers patrolling on a motorcycle stopped a Palestinian suspect, who opened fire at them as they got off their motorcycles.

“Inspectors from the Tel Aviv municipality noticed a young man who aroused suspicion and asked him to identify himself, at which point the suspect opened fire on an inspector, who was seriously injured,” police explained.
The David Magen Adom emergency service confirmed that his paramedics treated the 40-year-old officer and transferred him to Ichilov Hospital while paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on him.
The hospital later said the officer, identified as Amir Chen, was pronounced dead.
During the attack, “another municipal inspector responded with determination and managed to neutralize the terrorist,” explained the Police, before medical sources confirmed to local media the death of the attacker due to the shots he received.
“I congratulate the security personnel of the Tel Aviv Municipality for thwarting a much more serious attack. Our security forces will settle accounts with anyone who intends to attack us,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.
Numerous police forces were deployed to the area of the attack and the authorities asked citizens “to be vigilant and report anything suspicious.”
Later, the extremist group Islamic Jihad assumed responsibility, stating that the terrorist killed was a member of the subunit of the “Al-Quds Brigades”, the military arm of Islamic Jihad.
“We congratulate the Tel Aviv operation and affirm that it is a natural response to the daily killings perpetrated by the occupation against our people in the West Bank,” said Islamic Jihad, which recognized the attacker as part of its ranks.
For his part, Mahmud Mardawi, leader of the Islamist Hamas movement, which rules de facto in the Gaza Strip, said: “The shooting attack in Tel Aviv was a heroic act and a natural response to the execution of two young men in the West Bank on Friday”.
Qusai Jamal Matan, 19, was shot dead by an Israeli civilian in the town of Burqa, near Ramallah, during clashes between Jewish settlers and Palestinian residents.
And Mahmud Husam abu Saan, 18, was shot dead by the Israeli army during clashes that broke out in the Nur Shams refugee camp near Tulkarem.
