On Instagram, images that were created using artificial intelligence should be given a label that indicates this. According to one researcher who found new Instagram features several times before they were made public, either the creator tagged the content or meta tagged posts. This means that content is automatically checked to see whether it was edited using an AI or whether it was even created entirely.

Researcher Alessandrü Paluzzi posted a screenshot of the clue on X, formerly Twitter. It is followed by further links, which, however, do not yet appear to be entirely conclusive. At the top it says: “Image was generated with Metas AI”. However, we do not know what is hidden behind the link. One can assume that it will be the way to Meta’s own image generator. Meta has announced that it wants to incorporate AI into all its products, including the creation and editing of images and videos on Instagram. So-called personas, i.e. chatbots that correspond to certain personalities, such as a surfer or Abraham Lincoln, are to move into other platforms.
Then in the screenshot with the AI hint, there’s a link to an obvious info page that explains what Generative AI is. You can also learn how to tell if AI was used when creating a post. Here, in turn, is the information that there is usually a reference to AI images. So this notification doesn’t seem to be fully fermented yet. Last but not least, there is the option to learn how Meta uses AI in its products.
Demand for labeling of AI content
As early as spring, ten large companies agreed to label AI content and to work on guidelines for the responsible use of AI tools. Watermarks play an important role in this. They could both make AI content discoverable and prevent AI models from using content for training. There have already been calls at EU level to make labeling mandatory. During meetings with executives from US tech companies, EU Commissioner Thierry Breton spoke to OpenAI’s Mark Zuckerberg and Sam Altman about EU rules on artificial intelligence. According to the screenshot that has now appeared, Zuckerberg agreed to the labeling of content with watermarks generated by generative AI.
